Amen. I'm always looking for articles for the web site. From the

Subject: FTE 80-96 - California get together

Hello List Members,

There has been some discussion the 61-79 list of having a get together
somewhere in California. At this point in time, I do not know where, or
when it would take place. Right now I am trying to gather some information
so we can try and pick a date and location for the get together. So, I
need your help.

Question one.
I would like to know how many people would be willing to attend this get
together, if they can.

Question two.
Can anyone suggest a time and place in California that we could have this
get together. It would be nice if we can do this in conjunction with some
other Truck event that is happening then. Such as a Truck show, swap meet
or something.

Would you please email me privately, to help keep the list traffic down, at
herbie netvalue.net with your responses. When you respond, please include
the city you reside in with your response. This information will be kept
confidential.

Thank you !

Thanks

P.S. THe F-800 died again, but this time it was driving down the road,
unloaded, lots of gas. Must be time for a complete overhaul :)

It stands for Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor. The "EGO" sensors don't
work until they heat up, so your engine runs "open loop"; in other words,
the control system can't control the mixture until the sensor warms up.
This could take a few minutes, and in the meantime, you're polluting more.
The heated EGO has an electric heating coil in it, which brings it up to
temp much more quickly.

Subject: Re: FTE 80-96 - Noise when dropping into drive

Usually the U-joint is the culprit depending on the mileage. The
'clunk' is the first symptom, followed by vibration under
acceleration, followed by a hell of alot of banging around as the
driveshaft spins under the truck hitting everything it can reach!!!
Fortunately I got to mine, before the last symptom...hehe. To tell if
this is the problem, climb underneath and hold the yoke on the diff
and try to twist the driveshaft. A small amount of movement is all
that is necessary to conclude the U-joint is bad. Sometimes you can
look at the U-joint where the cups are to look for any shiny metal
> which is another tell-tale sign. If this is the problem, the fix is
very easy and very inexpensive. If you would like some instruction as
to how to do it, feel free to e-mail me off-list (or on if you prefer)....
