At first I thought it was a bad idea, but I saw one the other day on another truck and the rubber was dyed to match the color of the truck - I thought it looked pretty nice. Any thoughts? The dealer that quoted you $300.00 over dealer invoice may not show you the invoice when it comes in and may try to screw you out of some money. I quote you this price regardless of dealer invoice or if the price level may change which means a dealer price increase. You may want to ask the dealer exactly what the price will be to compare with my price. Please get back to me soon. The window for ordering is closing soon. Josh ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Sep 1997 09:37:20 -0500 From: "Stephen M. Brown" Subject: Mass Air conversion cc: fordtrucklist I have been through the long and short of the hunt for mass air for my 5.8 95 Bronco for almost a year now. I have finally given up. Ford has had the lightning mass air stuff "in development" for quite a while. Everytime I call Motorsport tech line, they say, "Nope, still not delivering that thing." There is roundabout way to do it (Lightning owners have been doing it for a while)...call Best Products (sorry can't find their number...I think their in Michigan...try web search...I found them once before). They sell a kit that gives you two computers for control...Your stock computer controls the xmission while a new mustang computer controls the engine via input from new mass air sensor. Other option....California trucks with the 5.0 and the 5.8 were mass air in 96. I have called a California dealership & with some social engineering, they will sell you everything you need to go Mass Air. Problem is, as far as I can tell, no one has tested it (and, no one seems to know if there are any other differences in the Cali. trucks that would cause a problem with the swap). I got frustrated & just supercharged my Bronco last month. Now I have plenty of power without needing mass air. Last wrinkle...C&M has a computer re-programmer called the CALIBRATOR. So far they are just making it for the EEC-IV mustangs, but Mike Wesley says Trucks are next (E4OD!!!). It could be a while...BUT (here's the good part), IT ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR MASS AIR CONVERSION! You can reprogram the built in look up tables (which contain stock engine info) with your own tables of modified engine info. In his trials, speed density mustangs (pre-89) were FASTER than mass air mustangs!. So I'll sit around and wait. Maybe by then, I'll rebuild the 351 with some more go fast parts! steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Sep 1997 07:42:00 -0500 From: Thom Cheney Subject: Re: Quit whining Edward A Arkin wrote: > > Re Tom C wait 'til ya add a girlfriend to your list-- > its even harder, > i mean more diffacult to do everything you wanna do > I guess you could lump that under "time consuming hobbies"..... so far I have avoided that kind of trouble. :)---% (self portrait, nude) TC ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Sep 1997 08:26:31 -0500 From: Thom Cheney Subject: Re: Spray-on bed liners Steven McCullough wrote: > > Anyone had any experience with these spray-in rubber coatings > used as bed liners. Typical prices? I have also been looking into the spray on liners. They seem to run about twice the price of a drop in bedliner here in Portland. Knew someone who had it done to his truck. The only bad thing I could see was that he kept getting air bubbles. They were warranted by the installer, but after 2 trips back he lived with them. Get your price before the dealer orders your truck!!!! Check the Kelly Blue book site and get the dealer's cost on all of your options. Don't forget that the dealer gets a 3% "hold-back" based on the MSRP less the destination charge. Even if the dealer sold to you at "invoice" he would still make a buck or 2. The only thing you might miss out on by ordering the truck are some of the incentives that a lot truck might be subject to. These totalled about $2500 on my truck. Fortunately, the dealer had a truck I could live with right there. I think that 8" plastic lip of the over-the-rail type looks unsightly. I am concerned with protecting that area though. It seems that the Splash trucks have a matte black coating(?) around the rail of their beds. My local Ford parts guy is not inspired enough to figure out whether or not it is paint or a sticker. Anyone have this kind of info? gracias, Thom Cheney '97 Ranger S-cab 4X4 STX ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Sep 1997 09:10:25 -0700 From: Brian Pynn Subject: RE: splash Hi Thom...just bought myself a 97 Ranger XL S/Cab with a 3.0L. Perhaps I'll think differently if I try to pull any substantial load with it...but as far as normal get-up-and-go driving...I find it has plenty of pep. Are you the 3 or 4 litre, and do you feel the horsepower is adequate? I've been surprised to see so many complaints about horsepower with the V6; so many guys wanting to get new filters, headers, chips, etc. to boost performance. Seems like a waste of money to me for a 5-10$ boost in HP and torque. > ---------- > From: Thom Cheney[SMTP:tcgrafx > Sent: Monday, September 15, 1997 6:31 AM > To: fordtrucks80up > Subject: splash > > I am looking at bedliners, etc. If I get a bedliner, I think I'll get > > the "under rail" type.
