I have '97 F150 , extended cab, with off-road, 4x4 and limited slip rear =
differential. Last winter while driving on ice/snow I became stuck =
going up hill with my left wheels on ice and my right on dry gravel. I =
noticed that my left rear tire just spun and spun while I actually =
rolled down the hill backwards.

I went to my dealer. They checked it out and found that all was working =
to within specs. They explained that the rear diff was designed with a =
break-away torque of 20 foot-pounds, i.e. power is supplied to both rear =
wheels until a difference of torque between the two wheels exceeds 20 =
foot-pounds then the power shifts to the wheel with the least =
resistance.

Does anyone have any more information on this? Is this really how it =
works? Can this be corrected?

I was wondering what brand of chip I could use that would help my 96 2.3 I-4 Ranger? I
have been to superchip online, but I have heard of other chips. What are the prices
like? Would any other chip fit in this, say a 96 Thunderbird?

Sounds a lot like the fuel pumps, although mine got worse...to
the point of not ever restarting. Check the fuel filter first
since they both are having problems. Could also be a bad pressure
regulator? Don't forget that some of those truck were recalled for
tank cross-filling, I found out later that they have to get to the
pumps for the recall, so if you sweet talk your dealer he might
replace the pumps in the process and only charge for the pump and
the 'extra' labor.

Anyone ever bought one of those pressure gauges that hooks up to
the schrader (sp?) valve on the fuel rail to check fuel pressure.

A word of advice on changing pumps...first be careful, second I
found it easier to remove the bed and replace both at the same time
rather than trying to drop tanks - if you have access to a forklift,
hoist or something, taking off the bed is a piece of cake.

Matt,

The only tire sizes are 235/85R16 (standard) and 265/75R16 (Opt.)

Couple of comments re winches - just bought one for my (new) F350

- - Mile Marker was my choice: hydraulic, rated for continuous usage (rather
than
intermittent as with Warn etc), competitive price and the people in
Pompano Beach (HQ) were friendly and helpful. However, my local Ford
service manager pointed out that ANY problem with steering hydraulics
would be extremely expensive to fix, and they would look VERY closely
at whether the winch had a hand in causing the problem. I got the message
and cravenly went to my second choice: Warn M12000.

Josh,

A while ago, there was some information stating that the 1999 F250 HD 4x4
was switching from IFS to monobeam in the front. Do you have any information
in regards to this?

If this is true, why and what was done to preserve the softer ride
characteristics of the F250 over the F350?

Do you have any specifics on improvements to the PowerStroke beyond what
has been mentioned in this group?

- - items mentioned here recently include:
- intercooler
> - waste gated turbo
- 500 ft lbs of torque, up from 425 ft lbs 2000 RPM.

thanks,

-john
