You mentioned a timing problem with the new motor, and a possibility
occurred to me since you mentioned converting the distributor. Are you sure
you got the
distributor back "in time"? It is possible to put it back in
180 degrees "off". Sometimes the engine will still run, just not very well.
(Yes, I did this once.) You really shouldn't have to set timing at ADC on
an engine like the 302/5.0.
