I have an '85 Ranger with the 2.3L turbo diesel ...
has 450,000 Km (about 280,000 miles) ...
5-spd manual ... the engine is an Isuzu diesel,
and runs beautifully ... I get about 45mpg on
the highway, and with the turbo it gets the same
stunning non-performance at 8,000 ft that it
does at sea-level :-)
would only ever trade it for a newer diesel Ranger,
but they are hard to find!

There was a 2.3 Turbo Diesel in the mid 80's but they really didn't take off very well in sales, I've yet to come across....
